# Members and exports

> See how many people a segment holds, browse and search its members, split it by a dimension, and export it as CSV.

Source: https://docs.grovs.io/docs/analytics/segments/members-and-exports

Open a segment from **Audience → Segments**. Its page has three tabs: **Overview**, **Members** and **Identifier list**.

## Count

**Overview** shows an exact count of **people** and **devices**. See [People and devices](https://docs.grovs.io/docs/analytics/segments#people-and-devices).

Grovs computes the segment when you open it and reuses the result for about 5 minutes. Count, member list and breakdown read the same result, so they agree. The first count after a definition change can take a few seconds.

If part of a window falls outside your data retention, the count is marked incomplete and may be low.

## Members

**Members** lists one row per device: **Identifier**, **Device** ID, **Kind** (`App` or `Web`) and **First seen**. A device without an identifier shows as `anonymous`.

- Rows load in pages as you scroll.
- **Search members** matches an identifier anywhere in the text, case-insensitive, or a device ID from the start. Searches are up to 100 characters.
- The totals above the list stay unfiltered while you search.

After a long time open, the list shows "This result has expired." Reload the segment.

## Breakdown

The **Breakdown** panel on **Overview** splits members by one dimension. Each person lands in exactly one bucket, so buckets add up to the total.

| Dimension | What each person gets |
| ------------------------ | ----------------------------------------------------- |
| **Platform** | The platform of their current device |
| **Country** | The country of their current device |
| **App version** | The app version they last used |
| **Install source (UTM)** | The `utm_source` on the link that drove their install |
| **Install campaign** | The campaign of the link that drove their install |
| **First seen (week)** | The week they were first seen |
| **Profile property** | The value of one profile property |

It shows the top 50 values. The rest are grouped as **Other**, and people with no value as **Unknown**.

## Export to CSV

### 1. Start the export

Click **Export CSV** on the segment page, or in a segment's actions menu in the list.

### 2. Wait for the email

The export runs in the background. Grovs emails you when it is ready. The email has no file link.

### 3. Download

In the **Exports** panel on the segment's **Overview** tab, click **Download**.

The file has one row per device:

| Column | Contents |
| ---------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| `person_key` | `i:<identifier>` for an identified person, `v:<visitor id>` otherwise |
| `visitor_uuid` | The device's visitor ID |
| `sdk_identifier` | The user identifier your app set, if any |
| `sdk_attributes` | The user attributes your app set, as JSON |
| `created_at` | When the visitor was created |

- The export captures the definition and identifier list at start. Later edits do not change the file.
- Each download link is signed and works for 5 minutes. Clicking **Download** again creates a new link.
- Files are deleted 24 hours after the export finishes, downloaded or not. The panel then shows **Expired**.
- If Grovs is busy, the export retries up to 3 times over the next half hour before showing **Failed**.
- Values starting with `=`, `+`, `-` or `@` get a leading `'` so spreadsheets do not run them as formulas.

> **Warning:** On self-hosted deployments, the download link points at your file storage. With a private S3 or MinIO endpoint, check that your team's browsers can reach it.
